Let's Party!

The place is crowded. Balloons, banners, and music fill the air.... I can’t remember her name. She is good looking and well manicured….

She is a Florida Congresswoman (D). She speaks confidently, suggesting that Florida will no longer be a red state after November 4th. As a Floridian I am so proud that she is one of our representatives… NOT. If I wasn’t so disgusted by the words coming from her pearly whites, I might have remembered her name. All she was saying was red state this, blue state that, give it a rest! Who cares the color of our state? We really do have color issues in our country.

Party unity is the hot topic. After slamming Barack Obama for over a dozen months, The CLINTON machine gives its support to Obama. I don’t understand, am I the crazy one? Why are all the networks stressing over party “unity”. Then it hits me. Political party success is more important than the country. The job of a politician is to get elected and re-elected, not to risk or sacrifice his/her reputation in order to make the tough decisions necessary to improve the living standards of their constituents. The only way 90 %(Laz poll taken Aug 2008) of politicians can guarantee getting elected is to the get support from a political party. In the U.S. the two dominating parties are… well you know. Therefore, if you want a career in politics you have to find a party and stay loyal to it (at all cost, even if it means looking like an idiot or screwing the country).

So, if you supported Hillary during her campaign, and stood against Barack, now you should support Barack because The Clintons said so. What they are telling us is that it’s more important to let bygones be bygones in the name of uniting the “Democratic party” against the “GOP”. In other words although you don’t agree with a candidates position, it’s more important to support him because he is a member of your party. Great, I guess I’m an idealist. I thought I was supposed to vote for the candidate I thought was better qualified for the job. But no, we are too busy voting for someone based on the color of their skin or the manner in which they pee. The problem is partisan politics. In an ideal America with ideal Americans, we would vote for the candidate we feel would be best for the country as a whole not for the specific group we identify with. I guess I am wrong. I identify myself as an American first, Hispanic second, short in stature third and middle class fourth. It’s not 1776. We don’t need political parties for guidance. It is time for change. Although we are long overdue for a minority president, the change we really need is to end partisan politics. Why can’t I be pro-choice and pro-guns, or pro-military spending and pro-education, or pro-gay rights and pro-off shore drilling? Where is the balance? Don’t let these political parties fool you. The only party that should matter is one with beer and good looking women. CALL ME CRAZY.

*** For the record, I am not suggesting anyone of the candidates is good or bad, all I am saying is that partisan politics are obsolete. ***
